Only 20% of your current skills will be useful soon. Figure out which - here is step 1.
Have you heard of the K-Shaped AI economy? It basically suggests that 20% of your skills (on average) will be useful and turbocharged in the future, whilst 80% will be made obsolete.

By that math (bush math), 80% of current tasks will be done by AI in the future - which at current human productivity rates means that 80% of people need to find out how to navigate the future (presuming businesses neatly organize tasks to humans which I know isn’t cut and dry but stick with me!).
Here is the simplest way in which to figure out the wheat from the chaff when it comes to your skills, and with beautiful irony it’s AI which will gladly tell you what of your job will be steam rollered! How kind of you, AI!
It then stands to reason that if you are a knowledge worker and AI is literally telling you which skills it will do better than you, you should start here:
ASK AI NOW.
I asked for a hypothetical media broadcaster sales person the following question:
“I’m a broadcast media seller, and I hear that 80% of human tasks will be replaced by AI in the future. Which skills should I double down on to future proof myself?”
The rest of this article is the response. It’s time for everyone to ask the same question. I’ll be posting much more detail on how this intertwines with fractional working over the coming year, stay tuned! But in the mean time, get ahead by asking your favourite AI tool a simple question and getting your mind in tune with the responses.
If you’re someone who wants to go on this journey but doesn’t know where to start, hello! I’m going on this journey myself and offering free 1-1 consultations for the next 60 days. Email me at [email protected] to lock a time in.

Response from Perplexity:
As a salesperson at a media broadcaster, your role involves a mix of interpersonal, analytical, and strategic skills. With the rise of AI, many of these skills will either be augmented or replaced. Here's a breakdown of your key job skills and their likely future in an AI-driven landscape.
What Will Survive?
Your interpersonal skills—such as empathy, active listening, relationship-building, and strategic thinking—will remain critical because they cannot be fully replicated by AI. These skills will likely be augmented with AI tools that provide deeper insights and streamline processes.
What Will Be Replaced?
Repetitive tasks like lead qualification, CRM updates, scheduling meetings, and basic data analysis are prime candidates for automation. AI excels at handling these efficiently and at scale.
